NTFGH is one of two partner sites under NUHS, offering a comprehensive residency program in Neurosurgery.
The Neurosurgery service at NTFGH benefits from a diverse faculty, working in close relationship with our counterparts at NUH, as well as NTFGH's Orthopaedic Spine team (as part of the combined hospital spine service) and Intensive Care Medicine department to provide holistic and quality care for the community in the western region of Singapore.
We are strongly committed to developing residents in both basic science and clinical instruction, based on the syllabus laid out by the Royal College of Surgeons, UK. Junior and senior trainees alike are exposed to a wide spectrum of neurosurgical conditions involving the brain, spine and peripheral nerves. The available sub-specialty teaching and caseload in NTFGH include neurotrauma, neurovascular, skull base, neuro-oncological, spinal and peripheral nerve surgery. In addition, exposure to paediatric and functional neurosurgery is available through rotations in NUH. There is ample opportunity for regular consultant-led teaching (ward and operative) as well as participation in audits, journal club presentations and scientific talks. Residents also receive regular assessment as well as constructive feedback on their performance.
As part of the wider NUHS program, residents are also encouraged to be involved in the participation of regional or global conferences, as well as organising NUHS-led symposiums or meetings. There is ample opportunity for research in both areas of clinical and basic sciences, including collaboration with partner institutions such as the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). We also welcome individuals who are keen to pursue clinician-scientist training, with the option of an intercalated PhD in conjunction with top local and overseas research institutes.
