Volunteer Programmes

Volunteers play an important role in supporting our healthcare professionals to provide care and improve the experience of our patients and visitors. Volunteers with various skills and interests can contribute your time meaningfully in different programmes and activities.

Art Cart, Art & Music-on-the-Move

Art- & Music-on-the-Move is part of JurongHealth Campus' Arts&Health Programme that aims to create a healing environment for our patients through art.

Music-on-the-Move's mission is to bring cheer and comfort to patients. Our volunteer musicians perform live music with portable instruments such as the violin, guitar, saxophone, etc. These sessions liven up the atmosphere in the wards and other areas in the hospitals, bringing joy to patients and aiding their recovery process.

Appreciating, creating art and making crafts keeps the mind active and provides positive distraction for our patients. Art Cart and Art-on-the-Move volunteers engage patients in conversations and art-making by their bedside.

Role

  • Engage patients by singing, playing a musical instrument
  • Plan and conduct arts & crafts activities
  • Engage patients in conversation with a selection of reproduction artworks by famous local and overseas artists, and let patients choose the artworks that they like most to decorate and brighten up their environment.

Requirements

  • Monthly; Mon - Fri (PM), 2 hours per session
  • Musicians must be able to play a portable instrument. Musical instruments not provided.
  • Art/craft materials can be provided for Art Cart and Art-on-the-move programmes

Activities Chaperon

JCH organises regular programmes and activities such as performances, movie screening, hair cut service for their patients to keep them engaged throughout their stay. Volunteers help to fetch patients for activities held outside the wards and accompany them and provide necessary assistance throughout the activities.

Role

  • Fetch and accompany patients to and fro wards and the activity's venues

Requirements

  • Ad-hoc; 2 to 3 hours per session
Bedside Buddies

Bedside Buddies assist nurses to interact and watch over patients to prevent falls in the wards.

Role

  • Keep cognitive impaired patients company and assist nurses in the wards
  • Act as an extra pair of eyes and ears to complement nurses' roles

Requirements

    • Minimum age: 18
    • Weekly: Weekdays / Weekends
    • Time: 8pm - 11pm
    • Ability to speak dialect is an advantage

Corporate Volunteers

Greeters & Guiders

Our volunteer Greeters and Guiders are the first faces to welcome and guide our visitors and patients around our hospitals and clinics.

Role

  • Help with wayfinding
  • Guide visitors/patients to their destinations
  • Assist wheelchair-bound patients
  • Assist visitors at self-registration stations

Requirements

  • Weekly: Weekdays/ weekends
    • Shift 1: 9am - 11am
    • Shift 2: 11am - 1pm
    • Shift 3: 1pm - 3pm
    • Shift 4: 6pm - 8pm

Greeters & Guiders
Greeters & Guiders
Mobile Game / Library

Mobile Game / Library Volunteers engage patients by playing board games, chatting and/or reading with them.

Role

  • Accompany and interact with patients through board games and/or reading

Requirements

  • Weekly: Saturday only
  • Time: 10am - 12pm
  • Ability to speak dialect / Malay language is an advantage
  • Group volunteers preferred

Patient Buddies

Patient Buddies are the extra pair of hands and eyes of our nurses in the wards, particularly during meal times, so our nurses can focus in providing better clinical care for patients.

Role

  • Serve meals, beverages and snacks, and/or feed patients upon request
  • Support nurses with basic patient care; e.g. taking of blood pressure and ordering of meals for patients
  • Bedside befriending for fall risk patients
  • Assist in ad-hoc non-clinical tasks in the ward

Requirements

  • Weekly: Weekdays / Weekends
    • Shift 1: 11am - 1pm
    • Shift 2: 4pm - 6pm
  • Ability to speak Dialect / Malay language is an advantage

Patient Navigators

Patient Navigators assist patients at the Specialist Outpatient Clinics; self-registration kiosks, as well as provide translation help for patients and wayfinding around the clinics.

Role

  • Assist patient at self-registration kiosks
  • Assist doctors with translation (English to Mandarin, Malay or dialect)
  • Wayfinding around clinics
  • Ad-hoc: encourage use of OneNUHS mobile App and e-Payment Kiosks

  • Weekly: Weekdays only
    • Shift 1: 9am - 11am
    • Shift 2: 2pm - 4pm
  • Ability to speak Dialect / Malay language is an advantage

Patient Navigators

Pharmacy Volunteers

Pharmacy Volunteers assist to pack prescribed medication in Outpatient Pharmacy.

Role

  • Assist with packing of prescribed medicines, sticking patients' labels and packing medicines into zip-lock bags for dispensing
  • Sort and pre-pack bulk medicines
  • Volunteers may be tasked on ad-hoc duties deemed suitable within the packing room

Requirements

  • Weekly: Weekdays only
    • Shift 1: 10am - 12pm
    • Shift 2: 12pm - 2pm
    • Shift 3: 3pm - 5pm

Ward-based Engagement Programme

Ward-based Engagement Programme volunteers bring cheer through meaningful and interactive activities in the hospital's ward to keep patients engaged on quiet weekdays' afternoons.

Role

  • Design and plan interactive activities ward-based activities for patients
  • Engage and encourage patients to participate in the planned activity
  • Introduce unique digital platforms to enhance overall engagement experience

Requirements

  • Weekly / Bi-weekly: Weekdays only
  • Time: 3pm - 5pm
  • Ability to speak Dialect / Malay language is an advantage
  • Group volunteers preferred (minimum of 4 volunteers per group)
