Reconstructive Surgery

Medical conditions like cancer, infection, diabetes, previous surgery or trauma which leads to a defect or loss of anatomical integrity of 1 or more of the following: skin, tendon, muscle or bone requiring reconstruction falls within the scope of our reconstructive surgery.

We perform surgery to transfer tissue from a nearby part of the body to another (loco regional flaps) or transfer of distant tissues from one end of the body to another (free flaps). We also utilise adjunct products/implants e.g. titanium alloys/plates, acellular dermal matrix, synthetic matrix, breast implant and tissue expanders to reconstitute defects or supplement the anatomical integrity of the body structure.

This is done to:

  1. Improve function (like jaw / mandible resection surgery - to allow patient to eat/speak) or (scar release to allow movement)
  2. Protect vital structures like major blood vessels, swallowing tract, airway, joints, tendon, bone or nerves
  3. Improve and hasten healing
  4. Improve appearance
