Anaesthesia

The Department of Anaesthesia provides a range of pre-operative, anaesthetic and pain services. Anaesthetists are also involved in other aspects of patient care such as:

  • Management of patients in the Intensive Care Unit through close monitoring, support and care, providing assistance in intubation, dialysis and non-invasive ventilation Pain management
  • Management of acute pain due to surgery, trauma, inflammation or other medical conditions
  • Management of chronic pain (pain of a long standing nature)

In addition, several of our Anaesthetists have undergone sub-specialty fellowships to be chronic pain specialists. These chronic pain specialists see patients in outpatient clinic settings and also perform appropriate interventions for patients in the operating theatre. They are also a part of the Pain Multi-disciplinary Care (MDC) team who aims to provide treatment and education to help patients manage chronic pain, as well as their functionality and quality of life. Our multi-disciplinary care team consists of Pain Specialists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, a nurse and other clinical and Allied Health Professionals to provide holistic service to our patients.

We are passionate about treating patients who suffer from the many multifaceted problems that chronic pain patients face. Individually tailored treatment plans are designed to treat your pain and aim improve your quality of life using the latest multimodal treatment methods. In addition to medications and physical therapy we offer minimally-invasive interventions to relieve pain and improve function as a way of reducing reliance on medications.

Anaesthesia Services

Our team aims to deliver quality care to our patients. The primary role of our doctors is to ensure a safe and pain-free experience for patients undergoing surgery.

We provide a comprehensive suite of anaesthetic services to our patients.

  • Pre-operative assessment and optimisation of patients' well-being
  • Provision of anaesthetic care during and after surgical procedures
  • Life support services to help resuscitate a patient when the condition takes a sudden turn for the worse:
    • Critical care services are provided in assistance to other physicians in the resuscitation of very sick patients
    • Artificial respiration services are provided in the resuscitation of trauma patients and preparing patients who need to undergo urgent surgery
    • Resuscitation of trauma patients and preparation of patients who need to undergo urgent surgery
    • Resuscitation, management and revival of patients who suffered cardiac arrests
Pain Management Services

These common pain conditions are treated by the Pain Medicine team:

  • Mechanical Pain (e.g Back, Hip, Knee, Shoulder)
  • Nerve Pain (Neuropathic Pain)
  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
  • Myofascial Pain Syndromes
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Cervical or neck pain
  • Coccydynia (i.e painful Coccyx)
  • Shingles and Post-herpetic Neuralgia, Trigeminal Neuralgia
  • Phantom sensations (e.g Post-amputation pain)
  • Headaches and scar pain
  • Chronic post surgical pain
  • Failed back surgery syndrome
  • Painful neuropathies (e.g Diabetic, HIV, post-stroke related neuropathy)

Pain Injections

Procedural or interventional treatments, which often involves an injection.

  • Abdominal wall block
  • Botox for chronic migraine
  • Celiac, stellate, lumbar sympathetic block
  • Epidural steroid injection for back & leg pain
  • Facet joint/medial branch injection
  • Ganglion impar block for coccydynia
  • Intercostal nerve block for painful rib fractures
  • Nerve blocks (cluneal, pudendal, occipital)
  • Pulsed RF for shoulder pain
  • Radio-frequency (RF) ablation for facet joint pain, knee and hip pain
  • Sacroiliac joint block and RF ablation
  • Selective nerve root block for leg pain
  • Trigeminal ganglion injection for facial pain
  • Trigger point injection
Minimally-Invasive Pain Procedures

We aim to design individually tailored treatment plans to manage your pain and improve your quality of life using the latest minimally-invasive procedures.

  • Neuromodulation - Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) to treat intractable back and leg pain
  • Nucleoplasty and Annuloplasty - Back pain arising from the disc
  • Neuroplasty and Adhesiolysis - Back pain arising from epidural scaring and fibrosis
