Audiology

2023/12/13

Audiology is the science of hearing and balance function. Audiologists specialise in the management of patients with hearing loss including the use of hearing aids and implantable devices. We work closely with Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) surgeons and other healthcare professionals: general practitioners, geriatricians, social workers, psychologists, speech therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists as well as community partners to support the diagnosis and holistic treatment of patients with hearing and balance disorders.

Patients can access our services by directly making an appointment as a private patient. Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents can receive subsidised care by visiting their nearest Polyclinic for a referral to our ENT clinic.

Hearing Aid Services

For patients with hearing loss who need hearing aids, our audiologists are post-graduate trained and well equipped to help patients walk through the process of hearing rehabilitation and improve their quality of life. We work with major hearing aid manufacturers to provide the latest digital technology to cater to the communication needs of each patient. Through the hearing aid evaluation session, we will understand patient’s communication needs and recommend a suitable device for you or your loved ones. On-going follow-up sessions are required to help the patients acclimatise to the hearing device. Verification and validation measures using specialised equipment may be carried out to make sure that the hearing aids are optimised.

Tinnitus Clinic

For patients who suffer from bothersome tinnitus or 'ringing sounds in the ears', habituation is possible. The principles of tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), relaxation techniques, sound enrichment are used to tailor to the specific needs of each patient. Though the tinnitus clinic, our patients have a better understanding of their condition and many experienced a reduction of their tinnitus reaction.

Hearing Implant programme

For patients with a severe to profound degree of hearing loss, or do not benefit from conventional hearing aids, hearing implants can be a viable option. Since 2015, we have an established adult hearing implant programme which offers a range of cochlear implants and bone conduction implants for suitable patients.
