Surgical Skills Lab Training

2023/11/12

The surgical skills laboratory located within JSCEC officially began operations in April 2017. It is well equipped to provide suitable realism to train surgical trainees and specialists in the use and coordination of surgical instruments, as well as routine equipment operation during surgery. With 8 surgical stations that have been set up with state-of-the-art 3D laparoscopic system, the laboratory provides an ideal environment to teach and evaluate procedural and technical surgical skills for both novice and expert learners.

Our surgical skills workshops provide clinicians with the opportunity to enhance surgical skills in preparation for actual surgery through training with cadaveric parts, animal tissues and task trainers. Training with cadaveric parts and animal tissues allow actual tactile realism in dealing with delicate body tissues, which aids in the development and refinement of necessary surgical skills, consequently improving patient outcomes. Some of the training programmes that have been conducted so far include, but are not limited to, the Singapore Haemorrhoid Operative Therapy (SHOT) Workshop, Temporal Bone & Laryngeal Surgery Workshop and Anastomosis Workshop.
