"Ties That Bind" is a series of 15 artworks co-created by artist, Tay Bee Aye with residents of Jurong. Concerned with how technology is rapidly changing the way we communicate and interact with each other in this fast-paced society, the artist employed well thought through weaving and knotting techniques that create a beautiful and significant association to the concept of connection and unity.
Fabric pieces were collected, patched and beautifully transformed into gardenscapes, blue skies and three-dimensional insects, conveying the traditional symbolic significance of patchwork - to protect, love and care. Through her artworks, the artist intends to bridge bonds by encouraging strangers, to come together to have a chat while knotting the beautiful pieces of fabrics. The art-making process allowed participants to rediscover the simpler joys of being in a heartfelt conversation that is lost in our present-day society.
