Dr Merwyn Chew is a Consultant, Ophthalmology practising in Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and Jurong Medical Centre, members of the National University Health System (NUHS).
He received his MBBS undergraduate degree from Monash University, Australia before returning to Singapore. He then continued his training to obtain the Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) and accreditation with the Specialists Accreditation Board. He is actively involved with clinical research, having published multiple scientific papers in peer-reviewed medical journals and having presented at international conferences. He also teaches medical students as a clinical educator with the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
He practises comprehensive ophthalmology with subspecialty interests in the management of major retinal diseases such as Age-Related Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Vein Occlusions and Myopic Maculopathy. He routinely performs cataract surgery and is trained in the use of new technologies such as the Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery.
