Adj Asst Prof Harvinder Raj Singh Sidhu is the Head of the Division of Vascular Surgery at JurongHealth Campus. He practises as a Senior Consultant in General Surgery at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. He was previously an Associate Consultant at National University Hospital.
Adj Asst Prof Harvinder graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1997. He underwent his basic surgical training in Ireland before coming to Singapore in 2003. In 2008, he completed his Advanced Surgical Training in General Surgery in Singapore and continued to pursue his career in vascular surgery with overseas training in New Zealand in 2008 and Australia in 2012. He was awarded a scholarship under the Ministry of Health’s Health Manpower Development Plan in 2011, whereby he trained in endovascular surgery in Australia.
Active in the teaching of both undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, Adj Asst Prof Harvinder was appointed as Adjunct Assistant Professor by Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in 2011. He currently oversees undergraduate teaching of medical students in the Department of Surgery. He has also been an examiner for third and final-year MBBS examinations since 2009.
Adj Asst Prof Harvinder is an instructor for the Advanced Trauma Life Support Course and Basic Surgical Skills Course. In addition, he organises Basic Suturing and Vascular Anastomotic Workshops for junior doctors. He is also an active member of the Singapore Society of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery.
As one of the pioneer doctors who started the Diabetic Foot Multi-disciplinary Care service in JurongHealth Campus, Adj Asst Prof Harvinder has been the Chairman of the Diabetic Foot Committee since 2011. His team has made a difference in the reduction of the number of major amputations in the diabetic foot patient population in NTFGH. He continues to strive for limb salvage using a multi-disciplinary approach. He has given many talks on the topic in GP forums to local healthcare professionals and at international wound care and vascular conferences.
As one of the pioneer doctors who joined JurongHealth Campus in 2010, Adj Asst Prof Harvinder played an active role in hospital planning and setting up the vascular service in JurongHealth. He assisted with the planning of the operating theatres and has been the lead for the multi-disciplinary hybrid operating theatre and the Cardiovascular Laboratory. He was also instrumental in the setup of the Vascular Diagnostic Laboratory at NTFGH.
Adj Asst Prof Harvinder is specialised in both vascular and endovascular surgery. He completed a short stint in Leipzig, Germany in 2013 in endovascular surgery. He performs highly complex endovascular hybrid procedures, which include aortic and peripheral arterial work. He is also competent in endovenous ablation therapy for varicose veins. His specialty interest is in diabetic foot limb salvage and is active in renal access surgery for patients on dialysis. He also works closely with the neurologist and operates on diseased carotid arteries.
