Adj Professor Graeme MacLaren is the Head of Division of Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) and an Intensive Care Physician at the National University Heart Centre, Singapore (NUHCS). He is also the Clinical Director of the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Programme at NUHCS. Adj Prof MacLaren graduated from the University of Melbourne, Australia, and trained in critical care medicine at St Vincent's Hospital, The Alfred Hospital and the Royal Children's Hospital. He undertook additional post-fellowship training in perioperative echocardiography and infectious diseases. He also has a Masters degree in Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
He has published nearly 300 articles, reviewed for over 90 medical journals, co-authored over 30 textbook chapters, edited 7 textbooks, and given over 400 presentations at international conferences across the Americas, Europe and Asia. He has been heavily involved with the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) since 2011, was the Inaugural Chair of its Asia-Pacific Chapter, and currently serves on the Board of Directors. He has served on the editorial boards of eight journals in the fields of critical care, perioperative medicine, and infectious diseases. In 2023, he became the first President of ELSO in the history of the organization from outside the USA.
